]]>Hawaii for my birthday? Ok, not too bad. As always carrying my camera, this time my Nikon D200 digital, along with my Canon SD790 IS for some underwater shots. Here are some of my favorites from the trip in January 2010. Beware, viewing these photos may want you to go to Maui; use caution!

Wolfpack & Elk--Yellowstone

]]>A dramatic series of photos showing a wolfpack stalking and killing a calf elk in Yellowstone National Park on September 9, 2010. The pack of 3 wolves chased the elk into the Yellowstone River around dusk, then paced the riverbank for awhile. Then one wolf swam into the river to force it out. The elk spooked and charged upstream in a panic towards the far riverbank where the other wolves were waiting. The elk reached the bank and the chase was on. The elk got about 50 feet on land when the wolves simultaneously pounced on the elk, taking it down. After a minute or so the elk tried one last time to get up but the wolves proved overwhelming and death came quickly. Nature in its raw form--difficult to watch but amazing.

]]>Some recent photographs taken with my 4 x 5 Large Format Zone VI view camera. From October 4-7, 2009. The weather was beautiful but really too beautiful. I was looking for some weather to add to the mood of the scenes I was capturing. Yet you must work with what you have! They were taken from San Simeon to Pt. Lobos on the Big Sur coast--a mysterious, hypnotic and diverse wild area.
